Software for building a remote site backup system for business continuity and disaster recovery
Development of "NASadapter Remote Site Backup"
T.B.TECH CO., LTD. (head office: Nagoya city in Aichi pref., president: Toshiharu Saburi) is a software company with in the Tokyo Boeki group has developed "NASadapter Remote Site Backup" which backs up data to a remote site for disaster recovery.
"NASadapter Remote Site Backup", based on NAS (Network Attached Storage) virtualization software "NASadapter" that we had so far developed, realized the remote site backup by adding the "NASadapter synchronization function" which allows synchronization between 2 NASadapters.
Although backup for the risk management for the important information property of the company is already carried out in many companies, actually there are few companies that construct the backup system for "disaster recovery" and "business continuity". Moreover, there is a pressing need to respond to the requirements of the "Japanese Sarbanes-Oxley Act" (J-SOX Act) which will be enforced from 2008.
Generally, the backup system is often placed near the main server and and the backup data may be damaged together by disaster such as a major earthquake or a fire. In order to evade these, some companies are storing their data in a remote site, even an other prefecture, by using memory media (e.g., a tape). However, the response time of such methods is slow, and both transportation and storage cost will be high.
So, we developed the "NASadapter Remote Site Backup" software using NAS which is inexpensive and easy to use, which builds a remote site backup system. This software builds the system that can quickly access the data backed up in the remote site when the servers saving data are down.
Depending on the capacity and configuration of NAS, you can introduce this system within 2 million yen.
System features
"NASadapter synchronization function"
Synchronize files between 2 NASadapters -- The files and folders changed from the conventional one at the specified time (a setup is possible), is backed up. With this function, NASadapter of a remote site is synchronized and enables it to save the same data as a main server side to a remote site side.
"Capacity expansion function"
When backup capacity decreases, backup capacity can be expanded by simply adding additional NAS.
"WEB setup / management function"
All setup and management are completed via a web browser. It is possible to perform easily by accessing the NASadapter from a web browser (e.g., IE).
Advantages of introduction
- Data concurrency decreases the possibility of the lost of data.
- In case of emergency, the remote server can be used directly. This reduces the time required for restoring the data.
- By using the NAS virtualization function, you will be released from the troublesome tasks of calculating and forecasting your future storage needs.
